Building a custom Antlamp is always a fun little project due to the many variations and options available.
This latest lamps antler was supplied by the client as it came from their farm in East Gippsland, Victoria.
The antler itself was very large, around 550mm tall so a larger base design was needed to balance out the antler.
Cleaning up the antlers is one of the hardest parts of making the lamps due to how hard the base of the antler is, being solid deer bone! Once the antler is scrubbed clean and the base made flat, I then have to tap a threaded hole up into the antler so I can fix it with epoxy to the base.
The base was made from Cambia Ash. An imported timber from America. The timber starts as White American Ash and is baked at high temperature to give it the amazing chocolate colour. Then sealed with Livos oils, which really brought it to life. This timber was used due to the colour being a great balance with the colours of the antler.
All the fittings are new with a long 183mm Edison bulb and zig-zag black and white cord.
This lamp is to be used as a small side table due to its size, the base stands 600mm high.
