Shou Sugi Ban coffee table.

The latest coffee table to be produced in the Theory of Willow workshop.

The clients brief was to have a 2 tone look for strong contrast while using the old Japanese technique called "Shou Sugi Ban" (burning the timber)

The client wanted to have a user friendly table while still maintaining some functionality. All the edges we routed round to give a pencil round finish.

The 2 tone look was desired to still showcase the recycled timber, Oregon, which was salvaged from an old mansion on the coast in Portsea, south of Melbourne. The top, which was 900 x 900mm square was burnt along with the storage, resting slats along the base.

Once complete the whole table was sealed with a natural varnish, giving a harder wearing finish to the generally softer timber.

Over all a tidy table and happy customer.
